Asian Immigrant students are getting pummeled in Philadelphia public schools, as they have been for a long time. The school district has done little to help them.

Three months before a race riot broke out at South Philadelphia High School, I wrote about the longstanding practice of freely pounding on Asian students. The story recently was awarded second place for Investigative Reporting by a weekly paper from the Pennslyvania Newspaper Association.

A quarter-century of sporting misery in Philadelphia bred generations of disgruntled but loyal fans - known around the world as some of the most irascible, cantankerous people to ever root for a home team.

Then the Phillies won the 2008 World Series. They returned to the World Series in 2009. That capped a decade of championship runs by all four of the major Philly sports teams. Quietly, we've seen a sporting revival in Philadelphia.
