Lecturer in the Journalism Department of the School of Communications and Theater, January 2007 to present
* Full-time, non-tenure track instructor teaching a variety of journalism courses including Journalism & Society, Writing for Journalism, Magazine Article Writing and Journalism Research.
* Designed a new course, The Entrepreneurial Journalism, for fall 2008. * Taught photojournalism in the 2007 Armagh Project, a Temple-sponsored, multimedia, summer program in Northern Ireland.

Freelance Writer
2006 to present
* Contributing writer for a variety of publications including the Philadelphia Business Journal, the Philadelphia Daily News and the Philadelphia Weekly
* Recent work includes a 3,500-word Philadelphia Weekly cover story about the Iraq prison abuse scandal, an essay in NewsPhotographer magazine, a foreword for a book of essays about Italy, and a Philadelphia Weekly cover story about the Pink Pistols, a gun club for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and the trans-gendered.
* Covered the 2007 Philadelphia primary elections for the Philadelphia Weekly and appeared on FOX29's Good Day Philadelphia morning show as a regular political commentator.
* Also shot images for some stories.

Loyola College of Maryland
Visiting Journalist, 2004 through 2006
* Taught magazine writing with students generating ideas and then researching, reporting and writing stories from around the Baltimore area.
* Taught a "Special Topics in Journalism" senior seminar, a broad-scoped class dealing with, among other topics, communication theory, ethics, bias in the media, visual reporting and the role of journalists in society.

Professional consultant/ adjunct instructor for "The Cagli Project"
2003 through 2006
* Taught journalism and photojournalism to American students as part of a four-week, multi-media summer journalism workshop in the small, remote Italian village of Cagli.
* Guided students in the production of a comprehensive website (www.cagliproject.com) in which they reported and wrote stories, shot still images, obtained B-roll video, performed interviews for video packages, edited video and designed webpages - including writing HTML.
* In 2006, worked with four returning Cagli students to create a non-traditional travel guide of the Le Marche region.
* The students' essays will be published in a book by Loyola College's publishing program (Apprentice House) in the summer of 2007.

Wilmington College
Adjunct Professor, 2001 through 2006
* Basic and Advanced Photography instructor using both 35mm film and digital cameras.
* Taught traditional black and white photography: canister developing and printing on an enlarger.
* Also taught in a digital environment, primarily using PhotoShop on Apple computers.
* Helped design the curriculum for the Photography minor. Developed seven new courses and redesigned several of the existing courses.
* Consistently rated an exceptional instructor by students during end of semester evaluations.

Philadelphia Daily News
Police beat reporter, stationed at the Police Administration Building, 9/05 through 12/05.
* Covered murders, shootings and unusual events during a violent year in the city that saw more than 1,600 gun-related injuries and 380 homicides.

General assignment reporter on the city desk, 10/04 to 9/05.
* Covered a wide range of events including breaking news, features, courts, mass transit, sports and education.
* Wrote stories about the Eagles quest for the NFL Championship title, the celebration of Elvis Presley's death anniversary, New Orleans-based artists who moved to Philadelphia after Hurricane Katrina, the Live 8 concert, and a punk rock music festival.
* Performed a series of Q&A articles on gun violence, and wrote an op/ed piece about being the victim of random violence.

Contributing Writer, 3/97 to 10/04
* Researched, reported, wrote and photographed feature stories about riding race cars around Pocono Raceway, flying in gliders and pitching quoits, among other activities.
* Wrote and photographed a weekly daytrip travel column in 2003. Among the daytrips were visits to a nudist colony, the site of a fictional Martian invasion, and Oxford, PA, home of the world's second largest collection of Edsel automobiles.
* In 1997, served as a member of the Editorial Board for four months, writing daily editorials and helping to shape the newspaper's stance on various issues.

Staff Photographer, 5/94 to 10/04.
* Documented the life of a major metropolitan city in images with assignments including politics, entertainment, professional sports, fashion, breaking news and business.
* Highlights include: 2003 Philadelphia mayoral campaign, 2002 NBA All-Star game, 2001 NBA Championships, 2000 Republican National Convention, spring training baseball in Florida (2000, 2002, 2004), tornado devastation in Oklahoma City (5/00), the funeral of Princess Diana in London (1997), the 1996 Major League Baseball All-Star game, 1995 NHL Championships and a series on Philadelphia's crumbling city (1997).
* Worked in a fully digital environment.
* Photographs have been recognized by the NPPA Pictures of the Year Contest, the Associated Press Managing Editors Awards, the Northern Shortcourse, the Pennsylvania Keystone Awards and multiple regional and local competitions.
* Images have been reproduced in books, on television and in magazines and newspapers around the world.

* Photographs have been displayed at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and the Pen & Pencil, the nation's oldest club for journalists.
* Webmaster and consultant to Nobis Productions, Inc., a video production company based in Philadelphia.
* Member of the Board of Governors for the Orianna Hill Dog Park in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia, 2004 to 2008.
